Updated: 18:05’ - 08/05/2015

In 2015, the Ministry of Information and Communications will coordinate with ministries, sectors, news agencies and provincial-level People’s Committees in elaborating the master plan on external information system and further disseminating information on Vietnam’s sovereignty over seas and islands.

Such is among the tasks set forth in the external information plan of the Government during 2015-2017, approved by the Prime Minister under Decision No. 587/QD-TTg of May 5.

Specifically, the external information system will focus on providing information on the national borders and sovereignty over seas and islands, educating about human rights, and strongly opposing false allegations on the situation of human rights in Vietnam.

Related ministries and sectors are urged to implement the plan to build overseas Vietnamese cultural centers during the 2016-20 period, and the plan to improve the effectiveness of external information of overseas Vietnamese representative missions through 2020. They are also tasked to prepare a plan to set up a group of overseas Vietnamese collaborators.

The plan also specifies other tasks of creating multimedia and multilingual products with high cultural contents; promoting images, potentials and strengths of sectors and localities to develop tourism and attract foreign investment; organizing Vietnamese Culture Days or Weeks in foreign countries and anniversaries of establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and foreign countries; and introducing documents affirming Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Paracel and Spratly archipelagos in some strategic localities at home and abroad.

The Decision, which takes effect on May 5, aims to improve legal documents as well as mechanisms and policies, and promote external information activities to serve the nation’s international integration.-
