The Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee convened its 10th plenum on January 5 in Hanoi.
In his opening speech, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong highlighted the importance of 2015, as this would be the last year to fulfill all tasks and objectives set out during the 11th National Party Congress.
During the meeting, the Committee is expected to discuss and approve draft documents to be submitted to the 12th
National Party Congress, including the political report, the socio-economic report and the report reviewing the implementation of the Party Statute. All reports would then be sent to Party congresses at different levels for feedback.

Trong said the political report was the most important one so the Committee should pay special attention to major issues and important contents relating to guiding viewpoints as well as renewal policies and strategic and breakthrough measures.
He also proposed the Committee to study a report reviewing the 30-year (1986-2016) renewal process so that it could be used as reference for the preparation and organization of Party congresses at all levels and the upcoming 12th National Party Congress.
The Committee should comment on performance reports of the Political Bureau and the Secretariat in 2014, and suggest their major tasks in 2015, the Party leader said.
At this plenum, votes of confidence for members of the Politburo and Secretariat would be held. This would help the officials review what they had done and left undone, improve their overall performance and increase their sense of responsibility, Trong said.
The plenum is scheduled to last until January 12, 2015.-
