President visit strengthens Vietnam-Europe relations
President Nguyen Minh Triet agreed to cooperate in mechanical engineering, machine manufacture and tourism with Austria, shipbuilding and oil and gas with Norway, and tourism and navigation with Greece.

President Nguyen Minh Triet agreed to cooperate in mechanical engineering, machine manufacture and tourism with Austria, shipbuilding and oil and gas with Norway, and tourism and navigation with Greece.

The agreement was reached between the President and leaders of Austria, Norway and Greece during his June 2-10 visits to the three European countries.

Many framework and cooperative agreements were signed, such as Vietnam-Austria agreements on double taxation avoidance and tax evasion prevention and on mutual recognition of tertiary diplomas; and Vietnam-Norway agreements to upgrade and expand the water supply network in Dien Bien Phu city, Dien Bien province; build a new water supply system in Lai Chau town, Lai Chau province; and help Hanoi National University to improve its capacity to mitigate geographical disasters and Nha Trang University to improve its research and teaching capacity.

A letter of intent on Norway’s financial assistance for building the United Nations environmentally friendly house in Vietnam was also signed.

Vietnam and Greece inked a governmental-level cultural cooperation agreement, and memorandums of understanding on bilateral cooperation and on modernization of the lottery system in Ho Chi Minh City.-
