Russia prioritizes strategic partnership with Vietnam

A joint statement released on July 12 at the end of a five-day Russia visit by Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh highlighted the positive results achieved during the trip.

General Secretary Manh and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev were unanimous that the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia had constantly been diversified and improved in all fields, especially in energy, including peaceful utilization of nuclear energy, petroleum, military technology, transport, telecommunications, education, science and culture.

They agreed that the two countries should speed up cooperation in oil and gas exploration and production in Vietnam, Russia and other countries. They called for stronger cooperation in power energy, including the construction of the first nuclear power plant and a nuclear research center in Vietnam.

The two sides also agreed to boost negotiations for signing in the near future a bilateral free trade agreement.

During his visit, the Party leader witnessed three cooperation deals signed between the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group, PetroVietnam, and Zarubezneft.-
