The South China Sea region displays a variety of approaches which aim to contribute to and promote the peaceful settlement of disputes. The overview of approaches is divided into two broad categories, first, formal settlement of disputes and, second, efforts to promote the peaceful management of disputes that have not been formally settled.

“The East Sea disputes seem to put involved countries on a crisis and the war is ready to occur if one of them takes a wrong calculation,” Dr. Probal Ghosh, a senior fellow at the Observer Research Foundation in India, said at the fourth international scientific workshop “East Sea: cooperation for regional security and development” held from November 19 to 21.
