The 22nd Assembly of the World Peace Council (WPC) has been a success, creating a new milestone in the WPC’s over-70-year development history, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga told the press on November 25.

The Vietnamese Party, State and National Assembly will provide the best conditions for organizations of Vietnam to boost friendship and cooperation with their Lao counterparts, said NA Permanent Vice Chairman Tran Thanh Man on October 6.

The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and other people’s organizations have flexibly responded to the current challenges and renovated their activities to adapt to the new situation, VUFO President Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga has said in an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency ahead of the National Conference on External Affairs.

The new Treaty on Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons opened for signature on September 20, 2017, and will enter into force in 90 days after getting 50 instruments of ratification. After one year, 19 ratification instruments were deposited, near one third of them from Asia-Pacific countries (including Thailand, Palau, Vietnam, New Zealand, Cook Island and Samoa). This fact shows that Asia-Pacific is in the forward position to totally eliminate nuclear weapons in the world for the peace, security and human being. How to move forward the process of ratification of the TPNW? It’s is a big question before the International Committee of the Red Cross, other organizations and civil society to build a strategy to assist governments in achieving the final goal.

Vietnam has been nominated for a position as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the term 2020-2021. Tran Viet Thai, vice head of the Institute for Foreign Policy and Strategic Studies under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, spoke to Vietnam Investment Review about the importance of this position for the country.
