The "fishing ban" imposed by China in the East Sea violates Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) as well as its sovereignty rights and jurisdiction over the waters and exclusive economic zone defined in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, Foreign Ministry's vice spokesperson Doan Khac Viet stated on April 20.

To the 40th anniversary, December 10, 2022, the Convention has been ratified by 167 countries and the European Union (EU), 150 countries have become parties to the Agreement relating to the Implementation of Part XI of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of December 10, 1982, and 90 countries have acceded to the Agreement for the Implementation of the Provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of December 10, 1982 relating to the Conservation and Management of Straddling Fish Stocks and Highly Migratory Fish Stocks, adopted on August 4, 1995.
