Greater efforts are needed to promptly detect, prevent, handle violations related to illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, especially acts of brokerage to bring Vietnamese fishing vessels to foreign waters for illegal fishing, an official from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Directorate of Fisheries has said.

By 2025, Vietnam will prevent, deter and eliminate all illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities so as to lift the “yellow card” imposed by the European Commission on the country’s seafood industry, according to the Scheme on IUU fishing prevention and control through 2025 approved by the Prime Minister under Decision 1077/QD-TTg.
