The National Assembly Standing Committee on September 13 gave opinions on the Government’s report on the enforcement of Constitution, laws and resolutions of the legislature.

National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue has requested that the NA Committee for Judicial Affairs continue promoting its core role in the legislature’s activities, while chairing a working session with standing members of the committee on April 19.

Measures to handle the assets of potentially corrupt officials remained the focus of debates about the revised draft Law against Corruption at the 25th session of the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee which took place in Hanoi from July 11-13.

Corruption in the non-state business sector happens when someone takes advantage of his/her position in his/her enterprise for the sake of his/her personal gains. In Vietnam, the 2015 Penal Code (revised in 2017) has broadened the scope of corrupt acts to include corruption occurred in the private sector. Specifically, persons with high positions and/or powers in a non-state enterprise or organization will be liable for the following criminal acts: embezzlement, receiving bribes, giving bribes and bribery brokerage. However, in order to effectively prevent and combat corruption in the private sector, holding persons committing corrupt acts liable is not sufficient enough.
