Decree No. 178/2013/ND-CP: Illegal food additives to cost their users dearly

The highest fine of VND 100 million will be imposed on an individual or VND 200 million on an organization that seriously violates food safety rules.

This fine is prescribed in Government Decree No. 178/2013/ND-CP of November 14, on sanctioning of administrative violations in the field of food safety.

A fine of between VND 30 and 40 million will be imposed on an establishment that uses food additives or food-processing aids outside the list of those permitted for use.

A fine of between VND 20 and 40 million will be imposed on an establishment that uses chemicals other than those permitted for use or of unknown origin in food production and processing.

A fine of between VND 40 and 50 million will be imposed on an establishment that uses food additives or food-processing aids of unknown origin.

For using food additives or food-processing aids containing toxic substances, the fine of VND 70-100 million will be applied.

The new regulation will take effect on December 31, and replaces Decree No. 91/2012/ND-CP of November 8, 2012.-
