Such was remarked in the seminar held by the Supreme People’s Court on September 14 in Hanoi to collect opinions about legally effective judgments and decisions to be developed into court precedents.

Addressing the seminar, Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court Nguyen Hoa Binh stressed the need to develop and apply court precedents in trial under judicial reform. This is to conform with international practices and help address problems arising in practical trial situations, Binh added.

The issue has been concretized in the Law on Organization of People’s Courts and other procedural laws adopted by the National Assembly in 2015.

Deputies at the seminar discussed issues related to the selection, publicization and application of court precedents, and judgments and decisions to be developed into legal precedents.

In October 2015, the Judicial Council of the Supreme People’s Court issued Resolution No. 03/NQ-HDTP on the selection, publicization and application of court precedents. Based on this, the first six court precedents were introduced on April 6, 2016, marking an important milestone in the country’s judicial reform, ensuring the consistent application of law in trials and settlement for cases with similar legal matters or events, and creating stability and transparency within courts’ judgments.- (VLLF)
