By 2025, the information technology sector will become a fast, sustainable and profitable economic sector with large export earnings.

This is provided in Prime Minister Decision No. 392/QD-TTg of March 27, approving the target program on information technology development through 2020, with a vision toward 2025.

Accordingly, the sector will strive for a minimum growth rate of 15 percent per year from now to 2020 in software, digital and IT services, attract more foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in key fields, among which electronic hardware manufacture is expected to draw a total FDI of five billion US dollars during 2015-20.

In addition, Vietnam will increase its competitiveness and stay among top ten countries providing software and digital outsourcing services. Vietnamese electronic hardware, software, digital products and IT services will also be developed, aiming to better meet the demand of state agencies, enterprises and social communities.

In order to achieve such targets, the program will select potential IT institutions, enterprises and products for research, development, promotion, commercialization and experimentation.

Some major IT parks in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang city, Hanoi and other localities which are suitable to the master plan on development of IT parks approved under the Prime Minister Decision No. 2407/QD-TTg of December 31, 2014, will be further invested.

The program will also help improve the capacity and quality of IT training institutions such as Vietnam National University in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Post and Telecommunications Institute of Technology.-
