NA Standing Committee convenes to complete preparations for 11th session
The 11th meeting, the last gathering of the XIIIth National Assembly (NA) scheduled for this month, will decide on the country’s major issues on socio-economic development, national defense and security, foreign relations and mid-term finance for the next five years, according to NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

He made the remark at the 46th session of the NA Standing Committee that opened on March 7 in Hanoi.

A number of positions will be adjusted to ensure the State’s smooth operation after the Party Central Committee made personnel decisions following the XIIth National Party Congress, Hung said.

He expressed his hope that the NA Standing Committee and relevant agencies would make thorough preparations for a successful upcoming meeting.

At the opening meeting, Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh presented reports on socio-economic development outcomes in 2015 and during 2011-15, as well as socio-economic development plan and mid-term public investment plan for 2016-20.

For the next five years, the Ministry of Planning and Investment had set targets focusing on macro-economic stability, economic restructuring along with changing the growth model, democracy, social equality and progress, climate change response, natural resources management, environmental protection, national defense and security, and international integration, aiming to turn Vietnam into a modern industrial country.

The NA Standing Committee also debated a report on supplementary assessment of implementation of the state budget in 2015 and a report on land use plan for 2016-20.

During this three-day session, the NA Standing Committee is expected to adopt the Ordinance on Market Management and the Regulation on organization and operation of juries.

It would also discuss work reports of the NA and NA Standing Committee of the 13th tenure as well as reports on the draft law on access to information and draft ordinance on training of certain judicial titles.- (VNA/VLLF)
