Updated: 08:31’ - 27/02/2017
The Prime Minister on February 13 approved a national program on crime prevention and fighting through 2020, targeting to reduce the number of penal crimes by 3-5 percent as compared to the figure in 2016.

The program, which is issued under Decision No. 199, aims to cut the rate of violations committed by teenagers and child abuse cases by 15-20 percent and 5-7 percent, respectively.

It also expects to ensure at least 50 percent of residential areas, communes, wards, towns, agencies, businesses and schools meet safety and security standards; and reduce the rate of persons falling into recidivism to below 15 percent. Particularly, all 100 percent of ex-offenders will be provided with job placement and consultancy services.

To realize the above targets, the program underlines the need to promote international cooperation in crime prevention and fighting, especially with neighboring countries, ASEAN members, countries with big communities of overseas Vietnamese, and home countries of foreigners residing in Vietnam; implement treaties and international agreements which Vietnam has acceded to; and make use of international assistance for crime prevention and fighting.- (VLLF)
