This is a goal of the Scheme on development of Vietnam’s environmental industry by 2025, approved by the Prime Minister on February 13 under Decision No. 192.

The Scheme also aims at developing technologies for waste disposal and recycling, environmental pollution analysis, monitoring, surveillance and control, and sustainable use of natural resources and environmental rehabilitation in conformity with Vietnam’s conditions and trends in the world. Besides, the application and commercialization of technological research and development outcomes will be further accelerated.

Domestic production will satisfy 70-80 percent of the demand for clean water supply and wastewater treatment equipment, 60-70 percent of the demand for solid waste disposal and recycling equipment, 70-80 percent of the demand for gaseous waste treatment equipment, 60-70 percent of the demand for energy-efficient equipment and technology, and 60-70 percent of the demand for environmental protection products. Meanwhile, 20-30 percent of products of the environmental industry will be exported.

The Scheme also targets development of environmental services, focusing on wastewater treatment and solid and hazardous waste disposal in urban and industrial zones, rehabilitation of the environment in polluted areas, environmental analysis and surveillance, and sustainable use of natural resources and energy.

The Scheme goes on to say that technical standards and regulations applicable to the environmental industry will be formulated and issued while price unit sets for environmental services will be provided, serving the production and business activities in the sector.- (VLLF)
