The Ministry of Justice and Thanh Hoa province on March 4 held a national seminar on “Legal reform and state apparatus building under King Le Thanh Tong’s reign - Historical and temporary values” on the occasion of the 520th death anniversary of King Le Thanh Tong.

During his 38 years' reign under two names Quang Thuan (1460-1469) and Hong Duc (1470-1497), King Le Thanh Tong left valuable heritages in law making and state administration, bringing Dai Viet, former name of Vietnam, into a period of flourishing development.

He successfully conducted political, military, economic and cultural reforms and initiated the “Quoc Trieu hinh luat” (the Penal Code of the Royal Court), commonly known as the “Hong Duc” Code, which was later used as a legal basis for governing the country.

The seminar also discussed King Le Thanh Tong’s reform thoughts, major legal thoughts and thoughts in training and employment of talented persons.

Speaking at the seminar, Justice Minister Le Thanh Long acknowledged the seminar’s theoretical and practical values, stressing that the event was not only to praise predecessors’ merit of building the country but also to study and draw lessons on legal reform and state administration of King Le Thanh Tong for the current national renewal cause.- (VLLF)
