Ambitious targets set for the telematics sector

The information technology and telecommunications industry of Vietnam would reach a total output of USD 33.5 billion and USD 67.2 billion, accounting for 20% and 24% of the national GDP by 2015 and 2020, respectively, according to a draft planning on development of information technology and telecommunications up to 2020, proposed by the Ministry of Information and Communication.

Specifically, by 2015, the information industry will earn USD 16.7 billion, representing 22% of total industrial output, while telecommunications services will generate a turnover of USD 16.8 billion, accounting for 24% of the service sector. By 2020, these figures will increase to USD 33.5 billion, 25%, USD 33.7 billion and 27%, respectively.

The draft planning also sets the target that by 2015, Vietnam’s software industry will rank among the most attractive software suppliers in the world and satisfy about 50-70% domestic demands and, by 2020, among the world’s top five software service providers.
