Addressing the workshop, which was co-organized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Vietnam and the Embassy of the United Kingdom, head of the Ministry of Justice’s International Law Department Bach Quoc An said it was not easy to search for data on recognition and enforcement in Vietnam of foreign courts’ judgments and rulings and foreign arbitral awards.

So far, statistics have not yet been updated and announced on an annual basis, An noted. He said the Ministry of Justice hoped the database will not only provide information but also help related agencies gain an insight into this work, thus contributing to making Vietnam’s business environment safer and more attractive.

Speaking at the event, Nils Christensen, Acting Assistant to Chief Resident Representative of UNDP Vietnam, stressed that increasing the recognition and enforcement of foreign courts’ judgments and foreign arbitral awards in Vietnam is especially important to guarantee a fair business environment and further attract foreign investment into Vietnam, which is also necessary to ensure Vietnam’s better global economic integration.

The database will make statistics of and classify foreign courts’ judgments and rulings and foreign arbitral awards that are reviewed and enforced by Vietnamese courts from 2012 through September 30, 2019.- (VLLF)
