Firms call for tax, customs reforms
Tax and customs procedures should be simplified to ensure a transparent and favorable business environment, deputy director of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Pham Gia Tuc said on September 20 in Hanoi.

Tax and customs procedures should be simplified to ensure a transparent and favorable business environment, deputy director of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Pham Gia Tuc said on September 20 in Hanoi.

Although most enterprises highly appreciated the tax and customs procedure reform carried out during the last few years, many problems hindering enterprises’ operations were still revealed, he said.

The inconsistency in legal documents, the lack of up-to-date information, the controversial tax exemptions and breaks as well as harassing customs officers were barriers to tax- and customs-related operations.

According to Deputy Minister of Finance Do Hoang Anh Tuan, the pilot application of e-customs was ongoing and would be expanded throughout the country to help boost the efficiency of customs and tax operations.

Draft amendments to the Law on Tax Administration would aim to modernize and simplify tax procedures while enhancing tax administration capacities, Tuan said, adding that the laws on value-added tax, corporate income tax and special consumption tax would also be amended to ensure equality.-
