Hanoi will open an official store on e-commerce platform Shopee this year, as part of the effort to boost the capital's digital economy.

On September 23, Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Truong Viet Dung signed Plan 256/KH-UBND to pilot the program “Digital Storefront - Elevating Capital Traders”. The first step will be the launch of a store on Shopee, featuring local signature products and those certified under the city’s “One Commune, One Product” (OCOP) program.

By the end of 2025, Hanoi targets to have more than 60 percent of its OCOP product categories (excluding fresh and processed agricultural or aquatic products) available on the platform. All participating businesses will be required to adopt digital tools such as e-signatures, e-contracts, e-invoices, and product traceability solutions. They will also receive training to effectively manage their online stores.

Between 2026 and 2030, the program will expand to more businesses citywide and diversify across multiple platforms, including social media and cross-border e-commerce channels. The city also plans to link its Technology Exchange with the Hanoi Capital Products Store to better integrate scientific and technological innovation with trade.

By 2030, Hanoi aims to bring all OCOP product groups and at least 50 percent of other local businesses onto the platform. Participating enterprises will receive support in registering trademarks, logos, geographical indications, and intellectual property rights, ensuring both brand protection and consumer confidence.

The program will also extend to regional cooperation, creating a “Capital Region Products Store” to promote digital economic growth across northern provinces.

The Departments of Science and Technology, Industry and Trade, and Agriculture and Environment will coordinate the project, with the Shopee platform providing technical development and covering all pilot-phase costs. Hanoi will also support participating businesses through trade promotion events, training, and communications campaigns to encourage public engagement and attract more enterprises.- (VNA/VLLF)
