Thang Long-Hanoi has played a significant role throughout the history of Vietnam. For almost eight centuries (1010-1789), Thang Long (Soaring Dragon) remained the imperial capital and the country’s political, economic, cultural and educational center, the seat of the Dai (Great) Viet feudal state through the dynasties of Ly-Tran-Le So-Mac and Le-Trinh.
