Squadron 11 under the Coast Guard Region 1 Command has distributed leaflets and legal handbooks, and presented national flags to fishermen in Dong Thai Ninh commune of Hung Yen province at a recent program.

Nearly 200 fishermen attending the event received guidance on regulations related to combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Colonel Le Anh Son, Political Commissar of Squadron 11, said Vietnam’s seas and islands are a sacred part of the nation’s territory, affirming that safeguarding maritime and island sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the country is the responsibility and duty of the Party, people, authorities at all levels, and the political system.

Recently, the Vietnam Coast Guard and Squadron 11 coordinated with coastal localities to support fishermen through initiatives such as the program “Coast Guard Accompanies Fishermen,” and the "I love my country's sea and islands" contest. The goal is to strengthen military-civilian solidarity, building an all-people national defense posture at sea, thus firmly safeguarding the country’s sea and island sovereignty.

According to Son, raising public awareness about regulations against IUU fishing plays a crucial role in having the European Commission’s “yellow card” warning against seafood export lifted.

The awareness activities help fishermen better understand legal responsibilities and compliance, protecting the reputation of Vietnam’s fisheries, preserving marine resources, and ensuring sustainable livelihoods for fishing communities.

On this occasion, Squadron 11 presented 30 gifts to war invalids, sick veterans, and disadvantaged families in Dong Thai Ninh commune.- (VNA/VLLF)
