Issued under Decision 450/QD-TTg, the strategy is designed to prevent environmental pollution and degradation, address urgent environmental issues, gradually improve the environmental quality, and mitigate biodiversity loss.

It is also expected to ensure environmental security and develop circular, green and low-carbon economic models, striving for the nation’s sustainable development goals by 2030.

By 2050, people will live in an environment with higher quality and in harmony with the nature; biodiversity will be conserved to ensure the ecological balance; and the circular, green and low-carbon economic models will be developed, with a view to achieving carbon emission neutrality.

Tasks to be performed under the strategy include preventing adverse impacts on the environment and environmental incidents; addressing major environmental issues and environmental degradation; protecting the nature and biodiversity, especially in the exploitation and use of natural resources; and improving climate change adaption capacity.

In order to fulfill the aforementioned tasks, it is required to raise the awareness of authorities, enterprises and the community about environmental protection; continue improving the system of policies and laws on environmental protection in conformity with the market economic institution, and step up the reform of administrative procedures related to environmental protection.

At the same time, it is important to apply science and technology, promote innovation and digital transformation in the environmental management; develop infrastructure facilities for the environmental monitoring network and environmental databases; and intensify international cooperation in environmental protection in the context of in-depth economic integration.- (VLLF)
