Party Central Committee adopts resolution on culture development

The ninth plenum of the Party Central Committee (the XIth Congress) concluded on May 14 in Hanoi with an agreement to issue a new resolution on developing Vietnamese culture.

Outlining future directions for the culture sector, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong suggested developing the Party’s viewpoints on culture enrichment mentioned in the resolution of the fifth plenum of the Party Central Committee (the VIIIth Congress).

The Party leader argued that culture should receive as much attention as economic, political and social sectors because it was the spiritual foundation of society as well as an important internal strength for sustainable development.

“The culture that we are building is a modern one deeply imbued with national identity, which unites the diverse cultures of Vietnam’s ethnic groups and bears the typical characteristics of nationality, humanity, democracy and science,” Trong said.

During the plenum, the Party Central Committee also gave opinions on the drafts of important documents to be submitted to the 12th National Party Congress.

Special attention should be paid to national defense and security in the context of complicated and unpredictable developments in the world and the region, such as the current East Sea situation, the Party leader said, adding the documents should set out policies and measures to maintain independence, sovereignty, national security, territorial integrity and an environment of peace and stability.-
