President To Lam has assumed the chairmanship of the Steering Committee tasked with reviewing theoretical and realistic issues related to Vietnam's four-decade-long socialist-oriented Doi Moi (renewal) process, under a decision of the Politburo.

The announcement came at the committee’s third meeting in Hanoi on June 12. The Politburo also named permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Luong Cuong as the committee’s standing deputy head.

Chief of the Party Central Committee’s Office Nguyen Duy Ngoc and Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army Sen. Lieut. Gen Trinh Van Quyet were appointed as the committee’s members.

In his address, President Lam said the review is critical for the cause of national construction and development in the new phase.

To ensure a comprehensive and productive review, he stressed the need to steadfastly and creatively apply Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, consistently pursue the goal of national independence in association with socialism, adhere to the viewpoints and content of the Party's Political Platform and the Constitution. Additionally, he required the committee to study and selectively adopt theoretical achievements and practical experiences from other countries, particularly advanced nations and those sharing similarities with Vietnam for perfecting the theory on national defence and construction.

It is essential to build upon the results of the 20-year and 30-year renewal review, as well as the review of the implementation of the Platform for National Construction during the transitional period to socialism, while following the resolutions of National Party Congresses and the 12th and 13th Party Central Committee, and the guidance provided by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the 9th plenum of the Party Central Committee meeting and in his recent publications and speeches, he said.

He concluded by calling for a broad-based approach, urging the committee to draw on the expertise of scientists, specialists, experienced leaders, managers and citizens from all walks of life in the work.- (VNA/VLLF)
