By 2030, the volume of solid waste in the northern key economic region, covering Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Vinh Phuc and Quang Ninh provinces, and Haiphong and Hanoi cities, will reach some 60,000 tons per day, of which around 55,000 tons will be household solid waste and 4,000 tons will be hazardous solid waste.
Hence, to fully dispose of such volume of solid waste, the decision plans to build an inter-provincial solid waste treatment facility with a daily disposal capacity of 6,000 tons, which will receive household solid waste from Hanoi, and hazardous solid waste from Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh and Hung Yen provinces and Hanoi.
In addition, other five provincial and regional solid waste treatment facilities will also be built with a total designed disposal capacity of 11,500 tons per day.
As required by the decision, the above cities and provinces will have to request their solid waste treatment facilities to ensure the safe distance from residential areas under current environmental standards and regulations and take measures to minimize pollution from their operation, and close polluted waste-dumping sites in their localities.-
