National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung has called for renewed efforts by Vietnam and Italy to elevate their economic ties and capitalize on their strategic advantages.
The top legislator made the suggestion on January 6 in Hanoi at a meeting with Marina Sereni, Vice President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies.
Chairman Hung expressed his hope that Sereni’s visit would be a step in strengthening cooperation between the two legislative bodies, and said he was optimistic about the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Sereni said her country continued to regard Vietnam and its people a valued partner in the Asian region. She called for both legislative bodies to tighten coordination at multilateral forums and increase the exchange of delegations.
During earlier talks, Sereni and NA Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan agreed to create favorable conditions for the signing and approval of cooperative agreements between the two legislative bodies.
Under the agreement, the two sides will work together to supervise the implementation of agreements inked by the two Governments, exchange delegations and coordinate on legislative efforts.
The two parties will also endeavor to consult on international issues and enhance cooperation at inter-parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership (ASEP).-
