As part of the 2025 legal aid work plan, the Department of Law Dissemination and Education and Legal Aid organized a training workshop on October 7 to enhance the capacity and knowledge of grassroots officials and respected community figures in key pilot areas. The event drew participants from Phu Bai, Kim Long, Thuan Hoa, and Vy Da wards of Hue city, who play important roles in supporting legal aid activities at the community level.
The workshop was designed to provide practical knowledge and skills to participants, including ward-level police officers, civil status–justice officials, mediators, and representatives from the Women’s Union, the Fatherland Front, the Youth Union, and other mass organizations.
Speaking at the event, Le Thi Thuy, Director of the Center for Legal Information and Support under the Department of Law Dissemination and Education and Legal Aid, emphasized that legal aid is not only a free public service but also an essential tool to safeguard human rights and citizens’ rights. When grassroots officials and reputable community members are well-informed about legal aid, she said, they become important intermediaries who can help the poor, people with meritorious service to the nation, and other disadvantaged groups access assistance when facing legal difficulties.
The training provided participants with an overview of the Law on Legal Aid, covering such topics as eligible persons, legal aid providers, types and areas of legal aid, service scope, procedures for submitting requests, and the rights and obligations of legal aid beneficiaries. Participants were encouraged to act as “legal aid communicators,” helping to disseminate knowledge and connect citizens in their neighborhoods with free legal aid services.

The workshop took place in an open and lively atmosphere, fostering active discussion and experience-sharing among participants. Many practical legal scenarios and questions were presented and analyzed, contributing to a deeper understanding of the law and improving participants’ ability to guide and assist citizens in their communities.
Through the event, grassroots officials and community representatives gained updated knowledge of the right to legal aid and a clearer sense of their roles in identifying, referring, and supporting individuals in need of assistance. The program contributed to building a dedicated and competent local network directly involved in delivering legal aid at the community level.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants expressed strong appreciation for the relevance and effectiveness of the training, pledging to actively promote legal awareness and help residents access free legal aid services in their localities. The initiative was recognized as a meaningful contribution to improving the quality of legal aid activities and fostering a culture of law observance from the grassroots level.- (VLLF)
