Updated: 14:48’ - 31/12/2004

Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong have agreed on initiatives to “connect” the two economies and strengthen their cooperation.

The agreement was reached during PM Lee’s official visit to the country on December 6.

The initiatives focused on such issues as investment, trade and services, transport, information technology, banking, finance and education. The two PMs agreed that relevant ministries would meet further to work on specific measures and schedules to tackle the issues.

They also shared opinions on some regional and international issues, agreeing on the importance for both sides to promote cooperation for peace, stability and common interests that benefit the two countries and the region.

On this occasion, the two PMs witnessed a signing ceremony that dealt with the final round of bilateral negotiations for Vietnam’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).-
