The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) has established itself as a pioneer in international integration and served as a trusted bridge between Vietnam, the region and the wider world, according to insiders in Indonesia, ASEAN’s political and economic hub.

ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn underscored that media’s role extends far beyond entertainment, encompassing education and the provision of reliable information on the society’s changes. He warned that the rise of disinformation poses one of the greatest challenges, making the mission of reliable news organizations vital.

Against the backdrop, the VNA has consistently prioritized speed, accuracy, and credibility, contributing to ASEAN’s joint efforts to ensure citizens’ timely access to authoritative and multidimensional information.

Ambassador Ton Thi Ngoc Huong, Vietnamese Permanent Representative to ASEAN, praised the strong support provided by Vietnamese media in promoting both the country’s image and ASEAN’s role. She highlighted the role of the VNA’s bureau in Jakarta in bringing ASEAN closer to the public.

Given the bloc gearing towards the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, the VNA will have a more important role to play in translating regional policies into practical understanding for people and businesses alike.

Meanwhile, News Director at Indonesian news agency Antara Irfan Junaidi underscored that the VNA’s presence in the country has not only enhanced Vietnam’s external communications but also brought ASEAN closer to Vietnamese readers. Through its diverse products, the VNA has showcased the public both ASEAN’s challenges and opportunities. At the same time, VNA’s reporting has helped the international community better understand Vietnam as an active, responsible, and constructive ASEAN member.

In the era of digital communications, the agency has demonstrated its ability to adapt quickly while maintaining the principles of objectivity and accuracy.

Junaidi also spotlighted the fruitful cooperation between the VNA and Antara over the recent past, covering news exchanges and joint coverage of major events. He pointed to opportunities for expanded collaboration in regional reporting and communications campaigns.

Since its establishment 80 years ago, the VNA has grown alongside Vietnam’s nation-building journey. The agency’s 28 years of permanent reporting in Indonesia almost perfectly mirror Vietnam’s membership in ASEAN, reflecting a shared path of integration.- (VNA/VLLF)
