National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam will take place in Hanoi on January 20-28 with the main theme of building a strong and pure Party, said Dinh The Huynh, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Popularization and Education Commission at a press conference on January 18 in Hanoi.

Promoting the strengths of the people and socialist democracy; stepping up reform comprehensively and synchronously; firmly safeguarding the nation and maintaining a peaceful and stable environment; and striving to early turn Vietnam into a modern industrial country are among the themes of the congress, Huynh added.
The event will focus on reviewing the implementation of the Resolution of the XIth
National Party Congress, and the outcomes of the 30-year renewal cause. It will also define directions, targets, tasks and measures for national construction, defense and development in the next five years.
According to Huynh, 1,510 delegates who represent more than 4.5 million Party members nationwide will attend the congress and discuss and approve several important documents, including the Political Report of the XIth
Party Central Committee; a report reviewing socio-economic development during 2011-15 and putting forth orientations for 2016-20; and a report reviewing the leadership of the XIth
Party Central Committee.
During the congress, members of the XIIth
Party Central Committee - the supreme leading body of the Party between the two congresses, will be elected.
At the press conference, information on preparations for the congress, main contents of draft documents, and personnel preparations for the XIIth
Party Central Committee were released.
Thuan Huu, member of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Vietnamese Journalists Association, said the congress’ themes aim at promoting socialist democracy, firmly safeguarding the nation and maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, as well as building a law-rule socialist state and accelerating the Party building process.
Responded to a question on new points of the draft documents to be submitted at the congress, Thuan said the documents underlined the need to actively renew the growth model, improve institutions and develop a socialist-oriented market economy, in addition to their focus on renewal of education and training, human resource development, science and technology application, and implementation of an independent and self-reliant foreign policy.
Mai Van Chinh, member of the Party Central Committee and Vice Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Organization Commission, said that of the 1,510 delegates to the congress, 194 are women and 174 are ethnic minority people.
The new Party Central Committee is expected to consist of 180 official members and 20 alternate ones, Chinh noted.- (VNS/VLLF)
