Vietnam’s consumer price index (CPI) rose by 3.48 percent in the third quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year, mainly fueled by the increasing prices of food in localities directly affected by Typhoon Yagi, and housing and education services, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
In September alone, the country's CPI increased by 0.29 percent. Nine out of the 11 main groups of goods and services saw growing prices in the month.
The education group in September increased by 2.09 percent, of which the price of educational service increased by 2.33 percent due to some localities adjusting tuition fees applicable for the 2024-2025 academic year in some private schools at all levels, vocational schools, colleges, universities and postgraduate programs. Meanwhile, the price of food and catering services was up 0.92 percent in September.
In contrast, transport costs recorded a decrease of 2.77 percent in the reviewed month.
