Decree No. 56/2010/ND-CP: Residence registration rules further clarified

From July 10, Vietnamese citizens are required to register only one lawful permanent residence address while businesses are prohibited from signing indefinite labor contracts with other businesses’ employees for them to acquire their household registrations in a locality with more favorable conditions.

Under Government Decree No. 56/2010/ND-CP of May 24, amending a number of articles of Decree No. 107/2007/ND-CP of June 25, 2007, guiding the Law on Residence, citizens will also be disallowed to have persons other than their family members registered in their household registrations for self-seeking purposes.

The minimum floor area for each household member must be five square meters.

A temporary inhabitant in a centrally run city wishing to have a permanent residence registration there must have a lawful home and has temporarily resided in the city for a full year or more.
