From now to 2020, Vietnam will host the APEC Year 2017, chair ASEAN in 2020 and run for non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2020-2021. It is also set to fulfill commitments to the World Trade Organization in 2018, and sign, ratify and implement several new-generation free trade agreements (FTAs).
The increase of communication is expected to help raise public awareness, especially among businesses, about international agreements, particularly opportunities, challenges and requirements for Vietnam when joining new-generation FTAs.
Under the plan, ministries, sectors and localities will step up communication concerning APEC Vietnam-related activities to show a dynamic Vietnam which has made active contribution to and created a new momentum for regional growth and connectivity, and its hospitable people.
Communication about ASEAN activities will also be strengthened, including the 50th founding anniversary of ASEAN and Vietnam’s 25-year ASEAN membership and ASEAN Chair in 2020, focusing on raising public awareness about the ASEAN Community and Vietnam’s participation, and challenges, opportunities and benefits brought about by the ASEAN Community.
Information about Vietnam’s participation in UN organizations will also be increased to show the country’s image as an active and responsible member of the international community.- (VLLF)
