The Ministry of Construction has just submitted to the Government draft amendments to Decree No. 90/2006/ND-CP of September 6, 2006, providing detailed guidelines for overseas Vietnamese to buy homes in Vietnam.
The guidelines, which will be introduced soon, clearly stipulate that overseas Vietnamese, who have maintained their Vietnamese nationality, will be treated the same as Vietnamese and may own homes in Vietnam without any limitations.
Eligible overseas Vietnamese would be those who directly invest in Vietnam and have investment licenses granted by competent bodies, people who have made great contributions to Vietnam, people who take part in the executive boards of Vietnam’s social and political organizations and take part in the Fatherland Front chapters of provincial or higher levels.
Eligible overseas Vietnamese must be those invited to work in Vietnam and recognized by Party, government or ministry leaders or other equivalent bodies. People who have special skills recognized by a Vietnam professional association or ministerial authority would be also eligible to buy a home in Vietnam.-
