Ho Chi Minh City University of Education (HCMUE) launched the “Community Learning Space for Drug Prevention and Control” on October 23 in collaboration with public security forces, socio-political organisations and businesses, aiming to improve drug prevention awareness among students through visual and interactive learning activities.
The learning space features simulated drug samples and images to help visitors identify different types of drugs, including those disguised in food, beverages and e-cigarettes. It also provides information on the legal consequences of drug-related offences. Through QR codes and digital platforms, visitors can also access educational materials, take part in interactive activities and engage directly with speakers to learn more about drug-related risks and prevention measures.
Speaking at the launch, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Le Xuan Thanh, Deputy Head of the HCMC Drug Crime Investigation Police Department, commended the university’s initiative, particularly the role of Rector Huynh Van Son in mobilising resources for its implementation.
He highlighted the importance of equipping lecturers and students at teacher-training institutions with effective communication and prevention skills, enabling them to raise awareness and help protect schoolchildren from drug-related risks in their future teaching careers.
The university and public security forces also plan to regularly update information on emerging synthetic drugs, organise practical learning activities and provide specialised training in drug prevention and self-protection skills.
The initiative forms part of efforts to implement Resolution 02 of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, which sets the goal of building a drug-free city by 2030.
Beyond providing an educational space, the model seeks to equip students with practical knowledge and skills to recognise and avoid drug-related risks, while encouraging them to share what they learn with others in their schools and communities.- (VLLF)
