LAW No. 65/2006/QH11:
On Lawyers

This Law was passed by the National Assembly at its previous session ending on June 29, 2006.

Under the Law, comprising 94 articles arranged in 9 chapters, lawyers who have bachelor's degree in law; have been trained in lawyer profession for 6 months and granted a law practice training certificate after probation; and have practiced law for 18 months in a law-practicing organization shall be granted a law practice certificate.

Law practice certificates shall not be granted to those who are cadres or civil servants; commissioned officers and carrier soldiers, defense workers in the People's Army's agencies or units; professional non-commissioned officers, non-residents in Vietnam; or those being examined for penal liability or facing administrative handling measures.

Lawyers may choose forms of law practice and forms of law-practicing organizations and apply lawful measures to protect legitimate rights and interests of their clients.

They shall provide pro bono legal aid and must not disclose information on the cases or clients they know in their professional practice.
