The NA Standing Committee closed its 28th session on May 17 following the discussions on the report on socio-economic efficiency associated with security and defense assurance of the Tan Rai and Nhan Co bauxite projects invested by the Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group.

NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said investors and related agencies should step up research into economical and scientific methods for wider application during bauxite exploitation.

The projects had made contributions to the economic development of Lam Dong and Dak Nong, said Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, adding the Government calculations showed that the projects would continue to generate income.

Hai also clarified issues relating to environmental protection and expertise and technologies employed in the projects.

During the session, which started on May 15, NA Standing Committee members agreed to the necessity to revise the Law on Organization of the NA, saying the amendments had new contents relating to the operation of the NA in line with Party policies and the Constitution.

NA Chairman requires the law to have clearer provisions on the functions, tasks and competence of deputies.
