Updated: 08:49’ - 03/03/2011

The 38th session of the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee took place from February 14-19 in Hanoi, concentrating on preparing a review report on the NA’s 2007-11 tenure.

The NA Standing Committee commented on the Government’s supplementary report on the results of implementation of the socio-economic development and state budget plans in 2010, the implementation of the socio-economic development and state budget plans in early 2011 and personnel preparations for full-time deputies of the XIIIth NA.

The Committee approved amendments to a number of articles of the Ordinance on the Procurators of People’s Procuracies and the Ordinance on Judges and Jurors of People’s Courts.

Debating the draft law on anti-human trafficking, NA Judiciary Committee Chairwoman Le Thi Thu Ba said most deputies wanted the law to focus more on offences relating to human trafficking, particularly trafficking of women and children.

They agreed that the law should cover various sections, including prosecution, protection and prevention.

They asked the drafting committee to make the law more comprehensive covering the trafficking of individuals or groups inside the country and across borders.

Closing the session, NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong asked concerned offices to improve the drafts and reports before submitting to the XIIth NA’s ninth session scheduled for March 21.-
