Overseas Vietnamese expelled

Updated: 09:10’ - 26/09/2006

Do Thanh Cong (also known as Do Cong Thanh) was expelled from Vietnam for his violation of the country’s national security, following a decision approved by Ho Chi Minh City People’s Procuracy on September 21.

Cong, a Vietnamese American, was arrested by Ho Chi Minh City police upon evidence that he joined the terrorist organization headed by Nguyen Huu Chanh, who was arrested by the Republic of Korea Government upon a request by Vietnam’s public security agencies.

The police discovered Cong with alleged plans to implement a terrorist plot to destroy the US General Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City and seek revenge for Chanh.

During his detention, Cong confessed to his crimes against the Vietnamese State.

The municipal police’s investigation unit also uncovered Cong’s accomplices, Le Nguyen Sang and Huynh Nguyen Dao, who are currently residing in Vietnam.

The accused plotted to provoke dissent among citizens against the Government by distributing anti-Government documents and leaflets.-
