The 13th plenum of the XIth Party Central Committee is of paramount importance since it focuses on preparations for the XIIth National Party Congress, said Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at its opening ceremony on December 14 in Hanoi.

The Party chief said by November 6, sixty-eight centrally run Party organizations sent their reports on contributed opinions on draft documents which will be summited to the XIIth National Party Congress. Many workshops and conferences were held by the Vietnam Fatherland Front, social organizations, and administrations at all levels and sectors to collect recommendations. Meanwhile, large numbers of Party members, people from all walks of life and overseas Vietnamese also sent their suggestions on the drafts.
He asked the committee to thoroughly consider the opinions, which have been sorted and summed up in 1,547 pages of reports, and look at issues of contention so as to finalize the drafts.
In the morning, the committee heard the Politburo’s report on the opinions of local Party congresses and the public regarding the draft political report, the Politburo’s report and opinions on the performance of socio-economic development plans for 2011-15, and orientations and tasks for socio-economic development in the next five years.
In the afternoon, the delegates worked in groups to discuss the collected comments on draft documents to be submitted to the upcoming XIIth National Party Congress.
The plenum is scheduled to run through December 22, focusing on personnel planning for the XIIth Party Central Committee, Political Bureau, Secretariat and Inspection Commission, discussion on draft working and election regulations of the XIIth National Party Congress, and review of the implementation of the Party building’s resolution adopted at the XIth Party Central Committee’s fourth plenum.- (VNS/VLLF)
