The Prime Minister on January 9 issued Directive No. 01/CT-TTg to call on all citizens and the entire political system, including agencies at all levels, to join hands in safeguarding the nation’s territorial sovereignty and ensuring border security.
He requests People’s Committees of all border and coastal cities and provinces to cooperate with the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security in organizing a movement for people of all social strata to take part in safeguarding the territorial sovereignty, and ensuring the security and order along the borderline.
The Ministry of National Defense is asked to direct the Border Guards, Marine Police and Navy to join the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in creating favorable conditions for offshore fishing and rescue at sea in order to defend national seas and islands.
The Ministry of Information and Communications will have to work with the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in working out regular and long-term plans to raise public awareness about national territorial sovereignty via the mass media for Vietnamese at home and overseas.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education and Training is asked to devise plans to include the issues of national territorial and border security in curricula of general schools, professional secondary schools, colleges and universities.-
