Program formulated to explore ground water for mountainous areas
The PM on March 2 issued Decision No. 264/QD-TTg to approve a national program to explore ground water sources in 44 provinces and centrally run cities where water supply is limited.

In order to sufficiently supply clean water and improve living standards of ethnic minority people, the Prime Minister on March 2 issued Decision No. 264/QD-TTg to approve a national program to explore ground water sources in 44 provinces and centrally run cities where water supply is limited.

The program will be carried out during 2015-20 in 16 provinces in the North, 4 provinces in the Northern Central Coast, 12 provinces in the Southern Central Coast and Central Highlands, and 12 provinces in the Mekong River delta with a total of 1,333 exploration zones.

The program consists of 3 projects, including project to survey and explore ground water sources in mountainous areas and areas facing water scarcity; project to research and apply technology of treating and supplying clean water suitable to conditions of aforesaid areas; project to build on a trial basis water supply systems in aforesaid areas.

In the first phase (2015-17), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will coordinate with related ministries and localities in organizing survey and exploration to identify reserves and quality of ground water sources in localities with the most urgent demand for clean water in the North, the Central Coast and the Mekong River delta.

In the second phase (2018-20), survey and exploration of ground water sources in the remaining areas, exploitation of water sources with stable reserves and quality, and building of sustainable daily-life water supply works will be conducted.-
