State President pays historic visit to Japan
State President Nguyen Minh Triet on November 25 began his five-day visit to Japan, the first state-level visit since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1973.

State President Nguyen Minh Triet on November 25 began his five-day visit to Japan, the first state-level visit since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1973.

In talks between President Triet and Japanese Emperor Akihito on November 26 in Tokyo, Mr. Triet stressed that looking towards to a strategic partnership between the two countries, the Vietnamese State and people had always given priority to ties with Japan and would do their utmost to develop bilateral relationship, contributing to peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

The interest by Japanese government officials, economic organizations and businesses in Vietnam would promote the two countries’ friendly and cooperative ties and help realize the strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia, President Triet said at the Japan-Vietnam business forum held later the same day.

He stressed that Vietnam is determined to carry out drastic reform, perfect the legal system and economic institutions and improve infrastructure in order to create the most favorable environment for foreign investors.

In the process of national integration into the regional and global economies, the country would always give priority to cooperation with Japan and encourage Japanese investors to do business in Vietnam in all domains, especially labor, trade, finance, science and technology, education and training, tourism and environmental protection, the State leader said.-
