Urgent tasks set to curb inflation

Updated: 14:42’ - 26/04/2011

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made a list of urgent tasks to be performed immediately by ministries and sectors in order to help control inflation, stabilize macro-economy and ensure social security.

At the April 3 monthly cabinet meeting, he asked all ministries and sectors to strictly implement the recent Politburo Conclusion on the country’s socio-economic development in 2011 as well as Government Resolutions No. 02/NQ-CP and No. 11/NQ-CP on major solutions to inflation control, macro-economic stabilization and social security assurance.

At the meeting, the Government adopted Resolution No. 77/NQ-CP, requiring the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) to be proactive and flexible in their operations to achieve the 2011 credit growth target of under 20 per cent and the money supply at 15-16 per cent.

By the end of April, the SBV must submit to the Prime Minister for approval policies to eliminate illegal trading of foreign currencies and gold as well as a roadmap to reduce the dollarization of the economy.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung also decided to provide persons and poor households that earn a monthly income of under VND 2 million with allowances to overcome economic difficulties due to inflation.

“This policy demonstrates the Government’s huge efforts to assure social security”, Government Office director Nguyen Xuan Phuc said.-
