The 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982 UNCLOS) came into existence nearly 32 years ago, on December 10, 1982. The year 2014 marks the 20th anniversary of the Convention’s entry into force on November 16, 1994, 12 months after it was ratified by 60 states. On June 23, 1994, at its 5th session, the IXth National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam adopted a resolution ratifying the 1982 UNCLOS, making Vietnam the 64th member state of the Convention. On July 28, 1994, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution and an agreement relating to the implementation of Part XI of the Convention.
