He was speaking on November 18 at a ceremony in Hanoi to mark the 90th founding anniversary of the Vietnam National United Front - the VFF’s predecessor.

The front was established on November 18, 1930. Since then, that day has become the traditional day of the VFF, also known as the great national unity festival.

The Party chief emphasized that during the Ho Chi Minh era, great solidarity was a source of strength, a main driving force, and a decisive factor for the success of the national construction and defense.

He praised the Vietnam National United Front for contributing to the national victories and gathering people from all walks of life, creating national power and obtaining success in the Doi Moi (renewal) process which was initiated and led by the Party.

In the current context, the VFF continues to uphold its role and encourage Vietnamese people to engage in policy and law building. The VFF’s Central Committee and its member organizations have promoted democracy at grassroots level and launched donation campaigns for the poor, he said.

Amid the traditional and non-traditional challenges, Trong urged the VFF to keep renovating their operation and taking an active role in the fight against corruption, protecting Party ideology and combating views that divide the great national unity.

Also at the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc presented Ho Chi Minh Medal to the VFF for its contribution to the national construction and defense.

Earlier a delegation of leaders of the Party Central Committee, State President, National Assembly, Government and Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum on the same day.- (VNS/VLLF)
