Updated: 10:57’ - 08/04/2019
Chairwoman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan met with Speaker of the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia Wesley W. Simina in Doha, Qatar, on April 7.

The two parliamentary leaders expressed their delight at meeting each other again on the sidelines of the 140th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-140) after the Micronesian Speaker paid an official visit to Vietnam in June 2018.

Simina said his country always wishes to enhance cooperation with Vietnam, adding that it recently adopted a resolution supporting Vietnam’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council for 2020-2021.

The two sides noted with satisfaction that the two parliaments have established and developed bilateral relations with good outcomes while promoting exchanges and coordination at multilateral forums like the IPU and the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF).

They affirmed the willingness to strengthen cooperation between the two legislative bodies.

Since the bilateral diplomatic relationship was set up in 1995, Vietnam and Micronesia have enjoyed strides in their ties. The two countries have carried out cooperation activities in multiple spheres, especially maritime environment, climate change, agriculture, seafood farming, and tourism.

During the Micronesian Speaker’s visit to Vietnam in June 2018, he and Chairwoman Ngan discussed many concrete measures to tap into bilateral cooperation potential, including increasing delegation exchanges at all levels, boosting people-to-people exchange, setting up cooperation and negotiation mechanisms, and foster the trade of agriculture products, consumer goods and agricultural machinery. These measures are being actively implemented by both parliaments.-(VNA/VLLF)
