The Special Task Committees of Vietnam's An Giang province and Cambodia's Takeo province on July 14 signed a handover record for the remains of 14 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died during wartime and were recovered in Cambodia during the 2025–2026 dry season.
The signing ceremony took place at the Takeo Provincial Administration Office in Cambodia.
The An Giang delegation was led by Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Le Van Phuoc, who is also head of the provincial Steering Committee 515 and the province's Special Task Committee. The Cambodian side was headed by Takeo Deputy Governor Sut Khon, deputy head of the province's Special Task Committee. Officials from relevant agencies and armed forces of the two localities also attended the event.
Under the signed record, the Takeo Special Task Committee handed over the remains of 14 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts to its An Giang counterpart, including 10 sets of remains recovered in Kirivong district and four in Tram Kak district. The remains will be repatriated to Vietnam for memorial and burial services.
Addressing the ceremony, Phuoc expressed his sincere gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia, the authorities, the Special Task Committee, armed forces, and people of Takeo province for their continued coordination and support for An Giang's K93 Team in searching for and recovering the remains of fallen Vietnamese soldiers.
He noted that although the war ended decades ago and search efforts have become increasingly difficult, the K93 Team successfully fulfilled its mission during the 2025–2026 dry season thanks to the support of the Cambodian side.
He also expressed his hope that the authorities, the Special Task Committee, and people of Takeo province would continue to provide information and create favourable conditions for search teams to locate and recover the remaining sets of remains.
For his part, Sut Khon affirmed that the search, recovery and repatriation of the remains of fallen soldiers are a deeply humanitarian undertaking that reflects the solidarity and friendship between Cambodia and Vietnam.
He highly valued the efforts of the K93 Team and the close cooperation between the two provinces over the years, while pledging to continue directing relevant agencies, armed forces and local authorities to facilitate future search and recovery operations for better results.
The repatriation of the 14 sets of remains from Takeo marks the first transfer of remains recovered during the 2025–2026 dry-season campaign. It also contributes to the implementation of the peak phase of the 500-day campaign to search for and recover the remains of fallen soldiers, demonstrating the determination of An Giang province and Cambodian localities to bring Vietnam's fallen heroes home.- (VNA/VLLF)
