Vietnam has satisfied initial requirements set forth by the Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Agreement, said Vu Van Dien, Deputy Director-General of Vietnam Directorate for Standards and Quality (STAMEQ).
Many local businesses have taken the initiative in seeking and learning relevant information on TBT, and ways to cope with difficulties and obstacles in the export market, Mr. Dien said at a conference held by the Ministry of Science and Technology in Hanoi on December 3 to review three years’ implementation of the TBT project.
Some 5,350 national standards, 3,000 branch standards and 170 verification processes have been completed to evaluate their conformity to the State’s requirements on standard and quality and their harmonization with international standards.
The rate of national standards which are up to international and regional ones has increased from 25 per cent in 2005 to 34 per cent in 2008.
Local representatives proposed the Vietnam TBT Office, the Ministry of Science and Technology and STAMEQ to issue a document guiding TBT agreement application for improving business competitiveness.
